Lines in the Sand

When Land Rover announced that Defender production was coming to an end, it declared 2015 as a celebratory ‘Year of Defender’. To support this, we were asked to bring the entire Defender journey to life and reward its loyal fans with a series of film, print and press assets.

Using a fleet of Defenders we made a film that was truly ambitious and memorable. On the sands in North Wales where the car was sketched the idea was to create the ultimate sketch, the cars iconic outline. Art directing the shoot with film and stills, I also oversaw a special printed pack that housed the assets from the shoot including a booklet of the outline, information cards, poster, a history of Defender and make your own model.

New Defender Launch Film

The launch of the new iconic Land Rover Defender was the most hotly anticipated launches of a generation. Working with a creative copywriter for the narrative and teaming up with external partners with the visual storyboard and mood board, we created this emotive film portraying innovation in the 21st century. The film has cinematic metaphors spliced with Land Rover footage. A highlight was travelling to the home of Bear Grylls to capture the VoiceOver, which unsurprisingly, he nailed.

03
Connected Capability

As the new Defender has a wealth of technical innovation I pitched and idea to create an animated information film that was very infographic with facts and numbers. Titled Connected Capability, I storyboarded the relevant narrative but worked on how each scene transitioned to the next. I worked with an after effects editor to bring this to life. The film was given to the press and also shown at launch.

ICON Coffee Table Book

After nearly 70 years the last Land Rover Defender was coming off the line. I was involved in overseeing ICON, a unique coffee table book as part of a whole year multi media celebrations. Like the Jaguar 50 years of E-Type, we as a team wanted this to be different with content that was fresh as well as archive material. I oversaw the art director that superbly crafted it and I styled up around 30 pages of the 200 page book as well as art directing and designing the macro shoot.

The book went on to win gold at the prestigious International Content Marketing Awards.
